Item Details
Excellent late 19th Century Pietra Dura (hard stone) box. This lovely oblong example originates from Karlesbad, Germany and is made of Mahogany. The lid is inlaid with the most attractive Pietra Dura panel, designed with geometric shapes and a gorgeous spray of flowers to the centre. Marble, agate, onyx and malachite are all used and are perfectly cut and polished to create the panel. The lid is hinged and opens to reveal a cedar lined interior, with the original velvet lined base. To the front the lid has a small inset brass panel, matching that of the lock escutcheon to the main body. A useful and decorative box.
